Does Reality Matter Anymore?
Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 | Author:

We are supposed to be living in this golden age of technology where it provides us with great insights — artificial intelligence, machine learning, and business analytics.   These are activities that are all based on dealing with large amounts of fact-based data.

Yet it seems that every day there are journalists and pundits yammering on about light-weight anecdotal observations or even ‘fake news’.  It stimulates the obvious question: Does reality, empiricism, and cold hard facts really matter to anyone anymore?  As an example, here is a recent excerpt on crime statistics disclosed by the US federal government, which is very germane to many of the ‘social scientists’ running around Washington and large US cities:

The FBI released its official crime tally for 2016 today, and the data flies in the face of the rhetoric that professional athletes rehearsed in revived Black Lives Matter protests over the weekend.  Nearly 900 additional blacks were killed in 2016 compared with 2015, bringing the black homicide-victim total to 7,881.

Who is killing these black victims? Not whites, and not the police, but other blacks… Contrary to the Black Lives Matter narrative, the police have much more to fear from black males than black males have to fear from the police. In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Black males have made up 42 percent of all cop-killers over the last decade, though they are only 6 percent of the population. That 18.5 ratio undoubtedly worsened in 2016, in light of the 53 percent increase in gun murders of officers—committed vastly and disproportionately by black males. Among all homicide suspects whose race was known, white killers of blacks numbered only 243.

Four studies came out in 2016 alone rebutting the charge that police shootings are racially biased. If there is a bias in police shootings, it works in favor of blacks and against whites. That truth has not stopped the ongoing demonization of the police—including, now, by many of the country’s ignorant professional athletes. The toll will be felt, as always, in the inner city, by the thousands of law-abiding people there who desperately want more police protection.

It makes you wonder if people really want to solve these unfortunate crime problems…  Or perhaps that have another (political) agenda.

Why is OPM So Important?
Monday, September 25th, 2017 | Author:

A simple experience highlights an economic effect that greatly affects us all, and will continue to curse our nation into oblivion:

I speak of two tenants who recently moved into a rental unit I own. I made the mistake of renting the unit for one flat rate that included “free” utilities. Since the tenants didn’t have to pay directly for their electricity usage, they cranked the air conditioner day and night. There was no incentive for them to turn it off when they were at work during the day or away for the weekend. Whereas the electric bill for that unit averages about $50 per month this time of the year, their electric bill came in just under $200 per month – for the simple reason that someone else (that would be me) was footing the bill.

I got to thinking about this concept recently. It is the reason our government is so bloated and our deficit and debt (we just exceeded $20 trillion in debt a few weeks ago) are so high.

This is because millions of Americans like the concept of spending other people’s money [OPM] to benefit themselves – or, to be more precise, they vote for politicians who promise to give them things using other people’s money.

Obamagate vs Watergate

Update

Well, well.  I’m certainly not surprised.  The Obama administration behaved like a banana republic and operated with impunity.

It’s now become public that most of the Obama enablers lied to Congress and the American citizens:

Last week, CNN revealed (and excused) one phase of the Obama spying operation on Trump. After lying about it on MSNBC, Susan Rice admitted unmasking the identities of Trump officials to Congress.

Desperate Obama cronies had figured out that they could bypass many of the limitations on the conventional investigations of their political opponents by ‘laundering’ them through national security.

When we learn the whole truth (if we ever do), we will likely discover that Obama Inc. assembled a motley collection of different technically legal pretexts to spy on Trump’s team.  Each individual pretext might be technically defensible. But together they add up to the crime of the century.

Do you think that there will be any repercussions?  Don’t hold your breath…

It’s interesting that none of the mainstream media outlets has elected to say a word about this emerging story:

A new report by Circa News details how the National Security Agency under former President Barack Obama routinely spied on Americans, violating their privacy protections and the agency’s own database safeguards.

On Monday, Circa also reported that under Director John Brennan the CIA became the largest consumer of unmasked intelligence on Americans of all of the intelligence agencies, even though its charter prohibits it from spying on U.S. citizens.

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that the mainstream media is ignoring this story.   Nevertheless, Sheryl Attkinsson has done a nice job putting together the timeline of the Obama administration’s involvement in the unlawful targeting of Americans.

Is this a surprise to anyone?

The Rice story strengthens the assessment that for eight years, Obama and his associates weaponized the federal government to wage a political war against their domestic political opponents in a manner that is simply unprecedented.

The emerging story about the Obama administration, and its use of the federal bureaucracy to spy on Republicans, is going to make Watergate seem like child’s play.  Naturally, there is nothing but obfuscation and diversion being played by the mainstream media and the Democrats:

Once you wave away all the smoke created by our dishonest media, the story of this past week was pretty simple. The Trump-Russia-Conspiracy narrative is falling apart. The Obama-Spied-on-his-Political-Opposition narrative is coming together

But in a stunning piece of video, a former Obama official who went on to advise the Hillary Clinton campaign essentially confirmed that she was urging the previous administration to abuse intelligence on the Trump people. Evelyn Farkas, former deputy assistant secretary of defense, told Mika Brzezinski earlier this month: “I was urging my former colleagues and, frankly speaking, the people on the Hill, it was more actually aimed at telling the Hill people, get as much information as you can, get as much intelligence as you can, before President Obama leaves the administration. Because I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama] people who left, so it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy. That the Trump folks – if they found out how we knew what we knew about… the Trump staff dealing with Russians – that they would try to compromise those sources and methods, meaning we no longer have access to that intelligence.”

The Pursuit of the American Dream is Still Alive
Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 | Author:

An excerpt from a great commentary…  The author is pointing out that America still offers great opportunities found nowhere else in the world. He uses the self-reliance of the Jews to present his example that you have to take personal responsibility to get ahead:

The most beleaguered people on the planet, the Jews, who have faced persecution since their birth as a people, are a living refutation of your claim. When they labored in slavery in Egypt, clamored in Palestine, made magnificent contributions to human civilization in European capitals, sojourned in Africa and Asia, and founded the modern State of Israel, no one gave these heroic people an affirmative-action plan to work anywhere. In spite of vitriol and invidious comparisons to vermin and pigs, and despite being subjected to countless pogroms and mandated ghettos, they thrived and flourished because not for one moment did they ever believe that their struggle for liberation lay in any hands other than their own.

Freaky Felon Fellow

It’s not the Onion… You can’t make this stuff up:

The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University has named convicted felon and transgender activist Chelsea Manning as a visiting fellow at its Institute of Politics for the 2017-18 academic year.

It’s a continuation of the Obama world view on “what’s wrong is now right”… Amazing.

Sports and Entertainment… and ESPN
Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 | Author:

You can call me old-fashioned or a sports-traditionalist, but I don’t care for all the commentary around sports, or the efforts at treating it as ‘entertainment’.   I may represent a small minority, but I attend games or watch them on television (or my computer) to experience the purity of the athleticism.  In fact, I don’t believe that I’ve ever watched the ‘talking heads’ on any of the ESPN sports programs, and I’ve long ago removed those overwrought sports websites (e.g., Deadspin) from my newsfeed.  The only reason that I would tune into ESPN on my TV is that a specific game that I want to see live is being aired on that channel.

It appears that the leadership at ESPN is making it even more difficult to tolerate their broadcasts:

The leadership at ESPN seems to think it can change the way people think by injecting left wing politics into its coverage of professional sports. Instead, they are alienating sports fans, many of whom are conservatives, and destroying their brand at the same time.

Someone that Pushes Back
Tuesday, September 05th, 2017 | Author:

An interesting commentary from Dov Fischer about the reasons that Trump is the right guy for the current political environment:

In such a volatile environment of static, of a new tyrannical left that honors none of America’s rules of civil engagement, the political left shamelessly rejects the voters’ choice to render it the “Loyal Opposition” and instead remarkably proclaims itself “The Resistance.” To counter, the pugnacious and divisive Trump emerges as the new-and-improved iteration of conservatives simply trying to be heard over a media din of dogmatic liberalism pocked by their coordinated corruption of conservative ideas and proposals, augmented by their blackout of any and all positive news of the good things that conservatives do and the excellent results that implemented conservative programs accomplish.
