Greece and California

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ve probably seen my continuing series on the future of Greece (see here)…  The irony is that — in many ways — the State of California has many similar economic characteristics.   The situation in California is even crazier because — instead of focusing on economic issues, the politicians are worried about climate change, homosexual marriage, and proper foods.  A writer at the American Interest notes in a recent article:

California is falling to pieces but its administrators are far too busy banning luxury foods to care. The state is failing to educate its kids, cannot house its prisoners or pay its bills… Congratulations California, your elected representatives don’t have time for the state’s real problems. They are busy — banning foie gras because its method of production involves cruelty to geese.
