As part of our annual rites, we made our visit to the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. We were fortunate to avoid the rainy weather and we were able to watch portions of four good matches: Wawrinka vs Coric; Gasquet vs Kokkinakis; Robredo vs Querry; and Verdasco vs Goffin. We watched most of the matches from the front rows of the stadium court, which gave us unprecented opportunity to watch each player’s specific methods of preparation. One of the most interesting superstitions was Richard Gasquet with his ritual for tapping the ‘three corners’ (service line/doubles alley/baseline) with his racket before returning service.
