I didn’t want to comment on this recent flap in Massachusetts, however, given the subtitle of this blog (Think Stereotypically, Act Individually), I feel compelled to share some important observations.
First of all, none of us was close enough to the actual Crowley-Gates incident to discern the actual facts. Thus, any reasonable person would withhold harsh conclusions or damning statements until the events are better understood.
Second, what is the Grand Charlatan of the United States doing getting embroiled in this type of discussion? Mark Steyn made a great sarcastic observation in commenting: “The president of the United States may be reluctant to condemn Ayatollah Khamenei or Hugo Chávez or that guy in Honduras without examining all the nuances and footnotes… thank God the leader of the free world had the guts to stand up and speak truth to municipal police Sgt. James Crowley”
It’s also interesting to note that it’s not just the black President of the US, or the black Governor of Massachusetts, or the black Mayor of Cambridge that were quick to come to the conclusion that the white policemen is a racist. As expected, the Harvard Crimson (school newspaper) — in a fashion similar to the lacrosse rape at Duke — had this to say about the incident: “…Yet regardless of Sergeant Crowley’s moral character, Gates was the victim of racial prejudice.” Hmm, evidently all of these folks know racism without seeing it.
Third, O’bama had an audacious comment to share with the world: “…we know separate and apart from this incident is that there’s a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. That’s just a fact.” It’s unbelievable that he would make this type of remark. It was very revealing that O’bama doesn’t understand simple cause and effect. Is it racism that most of the professional basketball players are black, or is it because the black players are better athletes? Do the police spend more time investigating black citizens because the police are racists, or because black citizens commit more of the crimes?
Add this O’bama fiasco to the growing list of useless thought processes that the Black Anglo Saxon Protestant is bringing to the forefront of our culture… at some point, I am assuming that most of us will just hit the “fatigue & forget” button when we hear a claim of racism.
