There is a new new implementation of a technology from Microsoft that is targeted at replacing Adobe Acrobat. This emerging “standard” is known as the XML Paper Specification (XPS). The specification itself describes the formats and rules for distributing, archiving, rendering, and processing XPS documents. XPS is scheduled to be shipped with Microsoft’s Windows Vista and has the support of office printing system companies… Given the wide-spread success of Acrobat as a de facto industry standard, this should be an interesting battle between two software behemoths.
