The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency has stepped out of its usual verification, detection, destruction programs to fund a project called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). This 30,000 pound weapon could well become the biggest conventional bomb ever used. The MOP goal is a GPS-guided, penetrating weapon that can be carried aboard B-52 or B-2 bombers to defeat “a specialized set of hard and deeply buried targets” like bunkers and tunnel facilities (ability to destroy over 60′ of concrete).
