Len and I convinced my father to join us for the Dayton Bombers hockey game on Saturday night… The Bombers looked tough in the 2nd period going up 4 -2, but were greatly outplayed by Reading in the 3rd period and ending up losing 19 seconds into overtime, 5-4.
When I was a youngster playing hockey, my father didn’t understand the rules and when he heard a whistle blow with the explanation “icing the puck”, he thought the announcer was say “ice in the bucket”. As a result, he encouraged all of the Dayton Bomber players by exclaiming “ice in the bucket”, or “shoot, shoot”.
Even though the Bombers lost, we still enjoyed the game.
