Who knew that not receiving the coveted “tenure” at a university could lead to a shooting rampage? Evidently, Amy Bishop, a professor of Biology, shot three of her colleagues at the University of Alabama at Huntsville (sounds like she didn’t like the peer review). Obviously, it’s a very unfortunate event for the victims and their families… This case caught my attention for a number of reasons:
1) I recently visited the Shelby Center (named in honor of the pork garnered by Republican Senator Richard Shelby) in Huntsville during a business trip, and I happen to know some of the professors at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
2) This is the second female professor of neurology from the Boston area that has apparently lost her mind (is it something in the Charles River?). You may have missed the recent story about the Moslem neuroscientist trained at MIT that was convicted for attempted murder.
3) As you would expect, it appears that Professor Amy Bishop has very strong liberal beliefs, including the outlawing of guns. I suppose we can chalk this one up as the ultimate in hypocrisy (“not only am I going to secretly carry a gun, I’m gonna shoot people I don’t like”).
One thing is for certain: an advanced education doesn’t necessarily lead to higher levels of ethics and morality.
