We took all of our employees at Renaissance on a “field trip” to the GM Moraine Assembly plant yesterday. This plant produces nearly 1,000 SUVs (Trailblazer, Envoy, etc.) every day and employs over 2,500 laborers over 2 shifts. The tour lasted about 2 hours and covered the general assembly plant (the body assembly and paint shop are not included on the tour).
Since we work in the aerospace industry — where production of 1 product per day is a high rate — it was a treat for all of us to see the line balancing and job sequencing that is managed at a major auto assembly plant. The most common observation after the tour was how everyone said that they would lose their mind having to perform the repetitive work on an assembly line…
After the tour, our group took in an early lunch at the Treasure Island Supper Club.
