It appears that I am in the minority but I found the movie, “Project Hail Mary” mind-numbingly long and the story catering to the taste of a Star Wars fan. Had the movie concluded at the 110-minute mark (instead of nearly 160 minutes), it would have made for a tighter story, and a more enjoyable viewing experience.
Perhaps my tainted view is based on the presence of high expectations. Many Sci-Fi movies rapidly degenerate into horror films where the backdrop of outer space is used to introduce various monsters. When I heard about the movie being similar to more science-based stories such as, “The Martian” and “Interstellar“, I was very interested in going to the AMC theatre to see the movie during the opening weekend.
From my taste, the movie was much too interested in exhibiting special effects, interjecting the humorous comments of the protagonist, and showing the cuteness of the friendly alien. On the IMDB 1 to 10 scale, I would give the movie a 6.
