Contrasting Dayton-Area College Basketball Programs

What a difference one night makes… Monday night, Len and I went to the Wright State Raiders basketball game (if you dare call that display basketball).  On Tuesday night, we went with the entire family to the Dayton Flyers basketball game…  You can hardly pick a pair of games to provide a contrast between college basketball performance.

Let me preface my comments by stating that I’m a staunch supporter of the Raiders.  However, I’ve never seen a more poorly played college home game than I did on Monday at the Nutt House.  The score was 3-2 for the first five minutes of the game, and the Raiders could only manage 16 points in the entire first half against a decent Miami of Ohio team.  The Raiders performance was so lousy, that I was screaming for a refund on my tickets.

Meanwhile, the Flyers came out against Mercer by putting on a show of dunking, 3-point shooting, blocking, and rebounding.   The Flyers built a first-half 48-26 lead and cruised to an easy victory.  I couldn’t help think about what a Flyers team would do against the Raiders from Monday night… It would be like men playing against boys.
