Yes, we made it to UD Arena last night to catch the first two games of the NCAA “First Four”. We did the smart thing in showing up for the first game near halftime. We avoided the delays in dealing with the highway closings for Obama’s wagon train from Wright Patterson AFB (landing site for Air Force One). Mr. Obama was sitting in the front row a couple of sections to our left. The entire section was ringed by roughly 20 secret service agents that stood looking at the audience during most of the game.
The first game (essentially a Division II game) involved two lowly teams that could muster a total of roughly 40 points between them by the half. However, it got exciting in the second half as Western Kentucky overcome a seemingly insurmountable lead to win by one point.
The second game involved two teams ranked around 40 in the RPI, and it also involved a tremendous comeback. Interestingly, Iona scored 55 points in the first half, but they could only find the hoop for 17 after the break. According to Sports Illustrated, Brigham Young staged the largest comeback in NCAA Tournament history, overcoming a 25 point deficit.
