Some good questions in this article:
In democracies all adult citizens get to vote — but for what? The statutes we’re expected to live by? (That would be direct democracy.) For the representatives who write those laws? (That defines a republic.) Or do we elect representatives who write laws that establish bureaucracies that parse them into regulations? Filtered through the incessant quibbling of lawyers, judges, and beneficiaries?
