Are Higher Gasoline Prices Helpful in the Long Term?

It was interesting last summer to see gasoline prices hovering around $3 and observe hardly a change in American driving habits.  Now, as prices sit around $4 per gallon, we’re actually starting to see a change in consumer behavior.   A posting in the Wisdom Journal claims that there are 12 good reasons that the high prices are actually good for America.   Among the list of reasons:

High gas prices are causing America to rethink it’s dependency on foreign oil.

High gas prices are helping fuel the online economy.

High gas prices are causing local governments to tighten up and become more efficient.
