Tennis Rackets and Airplanes

You may be asking yourself “what do tennis rackets and airplanes have in common?” …  Well, my carbon-composite Head tennis racket and the 787 fuselage use similar materials and manufacturing techniques (often known in the industry as ‘rags and glue’).

It’s interesting that every time one of my carbon-composite Head tennis rackets experiences a delamination (a much too frequent occurrence), I think about the problem of flying on a Boeing 787 sometime in the future.

A recent news article noted the problem with delamination in the 787 fuselage…  what does the future hold?
